Authors find that, considering other locations, the extreme heat wave of 2003 in Europe occur regularly and that there is a correlation between hemispheric climatic condition (warmer or colder) and the occurrence of these events (of the same sign). They also find that variability in the El Nino and volcanism have a larger impact on these events than a slower change over time. They also find that there is not strong support for the idea that there is an increase in regional heat waves over time.
