Of course this is half true (hence the partial reference in the title to the canonical "Extraordinary Popular Delusions & the Madness of Crowds ")

This book presents a very interesting set of examples and dicussions about how a crowd bahaves in face of a problem.

The author determines a classification of problems and uses the support of real-life examples to state in which condition a Crowd can be wise or not.

One of the main characteristics mentioned by the author, which make a crowd wise, is the "diversity". As much as possible a group is composed of heterogeneous individuals, better it will be the quality of the group response to certain problems. For exemple, values estimation.

The book is easy to read, there is no heavy math formalism, and it presents a number of valuable references. Definitely, it is not an academic book, but it is a very interesting related literature.
