We analyzed 41 cases of acquired BVP from 495 patients who had vestibular function tests(VFT) at Dankook University Hospital from 6-15 '94 through 12-31 '95. Their symptoms were spinning vertigo, unbalanced feeling, oscillopsia or episodic vertigo. All showed no responses to cold(17℃) water caloric testing and all had decreased responses in the range of 0.01 to 0.32Hz or in the lower frequencies by rotating chair testing. Eighty five percent of them showed vestibular dysfunction pattern in computerized dynamic posturography(CDP). The etiology in 90\% of them was idiopathic and the rests had bilateral vestilbular neuronitis, meningitis, or bilateral Meniere's disease. Five of 41 patients had history of ototoxic medications, 12 of 41 patient had history of taking intramuscular injections frequently at local medical clinics for various infections. We found our BVP incidence of 8.3\% of all VFT cases was much higher than what was reported in the literature. Intramuscular injections of ototoxic antibiotics without monitoring by clinics and hospitals may be partially responsible for the higher incidence of BVP.
