AbstractThe paper presents a study of a power system consisting of two types of generation units: wind turbines and diesel generation units. Both types of generation units adopt variable speed operation mode, and are connected to ac load via power electronic interface. The variable speed wind power conversion system maximizes the wind energy capture, while the diesel unit/energy storage system balances the system load demand. The system configuration, operation principles and models are presented. The simulation studies have been performed and the results are presented.
