The Sustainable Habitat Challenge (SHaC) is a national IPENZ-partnered project for multiple teams from around New Zealand to design, develop, and build sustainable housing in their local community. Charles Willmot, IPENZ’s Director-Engineering and Chair of the SHaC 09 Steering Committee SHAC Teams can now announce the list of SHAC 09 teams: • Team Dunedin – Otago Polytechnic / University of Otago • Team Waikato – Wintec • The Plant Room – Victoria University / Massey University / Weltec • Central Otago – Otago Polytechnic • Team Canterbury – Canterbury University / Lincoln University / Christchurch Polytechnic • BACH 101 – Te Hira Whanau and UNITEC / ScALA / Te Hononga • Unitec Sustainable – Unitec • zero.plus – University of Auckland, School of Architecture and Planning • Whareuku – University of Auckland, School of Engineering SHaC 09 aims to make ideas and methods for low-energy, low-resource housing a reality for New Zealanders. By building better homes, we hope to show that a more sustainable life is practical, achievable and desirable. SHaC recognises that today’s students, researchers, educators, planners and trade and industry professionals are vital to our shift towards sustainable living.
