X Abstract

The present paper proposes an entropy based algorithm for the feature elimination in cartographic generalization. The methodology is tested on a map with 100 point symbols. The experiment demonstrates how the most conicting map symbols are detected and eliminated from the map. The optimal symbol size can be computed from the entropy model. It is shown how to modify the entropy measure in such a way that the point elimination to a high degree preserves the point clusters.

CiteULike organises scholarly (or academic) papers or literature and provides bibliographic (which means it makes bibliographies) for universities and higher education establishments. It helps undergraduates and postgraduates. People studying for PhDs or in postdoctoral (postdoc) positions. The service is similar in scope to EndNote or RefWorks or any other reference manager like BibTeX, but it is a social bookmarking service for scientists and humanities researchers.
