Abstract

The current state of what is known about bulk, surface (Rayleigh), and interfacial (Stoneley) waves in infinite and semi-infinite anisotropic linear elastic solids is surveyed. Features of wave propagation which are not usually presented or even found in treatments involving purely isotropic solids are discussed, and the use of the so-called Stroh formalism for treating certain plane problems of steady wave propagation is reviewed.
