It also fails for me using the non-advanced browser button.

I've had problems with JSTOR before. Last time it seemed to boil down two different URLs that pointed to the same article. One of which the browser button could correctly parse, the others not so much. I tried to find the previous bug report about this (from a long time ago) but couldn't since there seems to be no way to search the bug report forum directly.
In any case the URL above is JSTOR's "stable" url so I think it'd be a good idea for citeulike to be able to read them.

I'm not sure if this is due to those changes but this problem http://www.citeulike.org/groupforum/2782 is now fixed.

It's partially fixed - pasting that URL into the "Post URL" form works but actually opening you link brings me to
http://www.jstor.org/discover/10.2307/2398114?uid=3738032&uid=2&uid=4&sid=21101350087421
which is still broken.

Interesting. When I click on the link you posted my browser reports that the page I'm on is the link I posted, but the citeulike browser button doesn't work. When I click on the link I posted my browser reports the same url for the page I end up on and the citeulike browser button works. Weird.
Perhaps there is some issue about url's being displayed in the address bar for my browser that is making things a little more complicated (I use opera if that helps). This would go some way to explain the discrepancy I found last time I raised an issue about JSTOR.
I can confirm that pasting the url I gave into the Post URL form works, while doing the same for the URL you gave does not.

The particular problem is that that article's DOI hasn't been put into CrossRef (which is very naughty of JSTOR)

Ah... so in one case (the link you provided) the doi is in the url, but citeulike can't look the details up from CrossRef? And... for the link I provided you have some kind of hack that works around this that won't work for the doi based url?
I had noted that the doi for the article seems to be completely absent from JSTOR's page. Otherwise I'd have just plugged that into the Post URL form.

Also have this problem. It seems that JSTOR actually uses different URLs for the same article, one works and one doesn't (why?):

Note that I used the "stable" url. Your claim that the Post URL page works for such URLs is not correct.
I understand that there is an issue with extracting the doi from the page. Does this mean that this will not be fixed, that's it's too hard to fix, that you're waiting on JSTOR to contact you about it?
What's happening with this problem? I often have need to import references from JSTOR to citeulike. I'm finding the lack of information about this bug frustrating.

Looking at the examples in the thread of JSTOR "stable" URLS it seems that it works for newer article that have a DOI, but not for older ones:
Perhaps this helps you to get to the bottom of it. Of course if you're just scraping the DOI and then look it up in CrossRef, it wouldn't work for articles without DOI.

It's messy: some older articles have a "10.2307/" prefix (so that 10.2307/530500 exists in crossref). But not all...
