Hernán Javier Dopazo born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1964. He studied in the Argentinian public system until his degree in Biology at Buenos Aires University in 1990. After his first experience in science working with Osvaldo Reig at the Grupo de Investigación en Biología Evolutiva (GIBE) he moved to Madrid, Spain in 1991 to follow with his studies in evolutionary biology as a student of Pere Alberch at the Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales. After his PhD dissertation at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in 1995 he returned to Buenos Aires University to work with Ana Baez in paleontology and Roberto Perazzo in theoretical biology. In April 2001 he moved to Santiago de Chile as Advisor of the Sustainable Development & Human Settlements Division at the Economic Commision for Latin America & Caribbean of the United Nations (UN). In 2002 he return to Madrid as a post-doc student to the Bioinformatics Unit at CNIO (Cancer Research Center). Currently he is the head of the Comparative Genomics Unit of the Bioinformatics and Genomics Department at Centro de Investigación Príncipe Felipe in Valencia, Spain.
