    <description>&lt;i&gt;Advances in Web Based Learning – ICWL 2007 (2008), pp. 160-173.&lt;/i&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;With the advent of the Web 2.0 technologies, web-based learning is shifting to new learning community driven requirements. While the success of web-based learning (still) requires a careful selection of appropriate communication/collaboration tools, the underlying software methodology is shifting from (passive) content consumption towards (active) content creation. Even more, the professionals’ socio-cultural background influences the attitude towards the collaberatively created learning contents. Thus, successful web-based learning community hosting for professionals depends on a comprehensive cross-media support such as capabilities to share drawings, animations, pictures, digital videos, texts etc. among users. In this paper, we present the “Learning As a Service” (LAS) framework. LAS is an approach supporting web-based learning for professionals on the Web 2.0. It employs advanced multimedia technologies in order to promote a wide range of web-based learning community information systems for interdisciplinary, intercultural as well as intergenerational learning. We present a set of services on the basis of LAS showing best practices for various application scenarios.</description>

    <description>&lt;i&gt;The Semantic Web (2008), pp. 871-878.&lt;/i&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Grouping is an attractive interaction metaphor for users to create reference collections of Web resources they are interested in. Each grouping activity has a certain semantics: things which were previously unrelated are now connected with others via the group. We present the GroupMe! application which allows users to group and arrange multimedia Web resources they are interested in. GroupMe! has an easy-to-use interface for gathering and grouping of resources, and allows users to tag everything they like. The semantics of any user interaction is captured, transformed and stored as adequate RDF descriptions. As an example application of this automatically derived RDF content, we show the enhancement of search for tagged Web resources, which evaluates the grouping information to deduce additional contextual information about the resources. GroupMe! is available via http://www.groupme.org .</description>

Library spaces and services have been reconfigured to satisfy the demands of an increasingly diverse array of customers, no longer simply the traditional academic researcher. These trends, along with flexible design elements to allow for technology upgrades, has produced a paradigm shift in our understanding of the form and function of library facilities. Moving away from the traditional &#34;repository&#34; conception of library as storage centers for materials, the new facilities are more complex, enhanced interactive and research environments many of whose spaces can assume a multitude of functions. This article surveys the paradigm shift, and presents new developments - especially the incorporation of a &#34;learning caf&#233;&#34; within library facilities.</description>

Much of what goes by the name of Web 2.0 can, in fact, be regarded as new kinds of learning technologies, and can be utilised as such. This paper explains the background of Web 2.0, investigates the implications for knowledge transfer in general, and then discusses its particular use in eLearning contexts with the help of short scenarios. The main challenge in the future will be to maintain essential Web 2.0 attributes, such as trust, openness, voluntariness and self-organisation, when applying Web 2.0 tools in institutional contexts.</description>

The rising interest in harnessing the collective intelligence of Web users entails changes in managing the knowledge of individual users. Currently, service-based and high-tech industries are becoming dominant in some economies, such as the United States. Many organizations in these industries interpret the principles quite differently from the way they were interpreted in Fayol&#039;s time. The differences and the cultural challenges managers face in implementing this new framework are presented.</description>

    <description>&lt;i&gt;(2004), pp. 84-94.&lt;/i&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This paper proposes a cognitive approach of integrating marketing and intelligence views into a new &#34;dual-perspective&#34; SWOT framework. The new dimensions of SWOT are proposed to address the logical inconsistencies faced by marketing managers synthesizing SWOT components. By representing SWOT as the focus of practitioners&#039; cognition, researchers and consultants can capture the variability in managerial core logic employed to integrate a coherent strategic situation from a dual intelligence-and-planning perspective. Directions are outlined for this new avenue of marketing research.</description>
