Using state-of-the-art information extraction techniques we identify temporal expressions in these queries. We find that temporal expressions are rarely used (1.5% of queries) and, when used, they are related to current and past events. Also, there are specific topics where the use of temporal expressions is more visible.</description>

In this article, we develop and discuss a systematic view on the diversity of methods for visualizing time-oriented data. With the proposed categorization we try to untangle the visualization of time-oriented data, which is such an important concern in Visual Analytics. The categorization is not only helpful for users, but also for researchers to identify future tasks in Visual Analytics.</description>

One of the most popular styles of collaboration are the “wiki” web sites. They have attracted attention because of their policy of letting anyone become an editor. This paper presents the technique for the analysis and visualization of Wikipedia - the largest wiki in existence. Specifically, it concentrates on some activity patterns of its contributors. First, a new visualization and analysis tool named JWikiVis is presented. Second, with the use of this software, some interesting user behaviors are described. Finally, text classification algorithms are applied in order to determine some patterns observed in individual wiki pages as well as in the entire service.</description>

Related research in information science has shown that human abstractors extract sentences for summaries based on the hierarchical structure of documents; however, the existing automatic summarization models do not take into account the human abstractor's behavior of sentence extraction and only consider the document as a sequence of sentences during the process of extraction of sentences as a summary. In general, a document exhibits a well-defined hierarchical structure that can be described as fractals - mathematical objects with a high degree of redundancy. In this article, we introduce the fractal summarization model based on the fractal theory. The important information is captured from the source document by exploring the hierarchical structure and salient features of the document. A condensed version of the document that is informatively close to the source document is produced iteratively using the contractive transformation in the fractal theory. The fractal summarization model is the first attempt to apply fractal theory to document summarization. It significantly improves the divergence of information coverage of summary and the precision of summary. User evaluations have been conducted. Results have indicated that fractal summarization is promising and outperforms current summarization techniques that do not consider the hierarchical structure of documents.</description>

    <title>The Quest for Correct Information on the Web: Hyper Search Engines</title>

    <description>&lt;i&gt;(1997), pp. 265-276.&lt;/i&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Finding the right information on the World Wide Web is becoming a fundamental problem, since the amount of global information that the WWW contains is growing at an incredible rate. In this paper, we present a novel method for extracting from a Web object its &#34;hyper&#34; informative content, in contrast with current search engines, which only deal with the &#34;textual&#34; informative content. This method is not only valuable per se, but it is shown to be able to considerably increase the precision of current search engines, Moreover, it integrates smoothly with existing search engine technology since it can be implemented on top of every search engine, acting as a post-processor, thus automatically transforming a search engine into its corresponding &#34;hyper&#34; version. We also show how, interestingly, the hyper information can be usefully employed to face the search engine persuasion problem.</description>

    <description>&lt;i&gt;Innovations in Applied Artificial Intelligence (2004), pp. 653-662.&lt;/i&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;World Wide Web is not only enormous but also dynamic information space. Every day large quantity of new information is published on web pages. Many times people want to know what are the major changes in their area of interest over a given time period. This paper addresses the problem of summarizing changes in web collections devoted to a common topic. We have created a system called ChangeSummarizer, which periodically monitors a web collection in search for new changes and generates their summary. Since many web pages can be quite static over long time or just unrelated to the query we employ the method to evaluate, which pages are dynamic and which provide valuable content. Basing on this evaluation ChangeSummarizer creates web page ranking list and updates it regularly in order to improve subsequent summaries. Additionally, the system searches for new, valuable web pages, which can be included into the collection to enhance its quality.</description>
