X Abstract

A simple model of phloem transport is presented, based upon M[u]nch's original hypothesis of convective bulk flow driven by an osmotically generated pressure gradient and saturatable unloading kinetics, for a system consisting of a single source and two sinks. This model is shown to mimic a number of experimentally observed source-sink relations and to give a mechanistic interpretation to the concept of sink priority. 10.1093/jxb/44.5.947
