Notes for this articleThe piece contains short text introductions in English and Spanish which are littered with hypertext one-way links to various other works. The text discusses the problematics of broken identities. The piece is a combination of audio clips and browser windows depicting a woman speaking about her experience immigrating to Canada, practicing her English phrases on film and protesting the Anglophone nature of the internet itself as well as conveying the dissociation of her own identity by using the medium of the internet to effect the mis-portrayal of her own embodiment. The hyperlinks on the text itself connect to both the artist’s own work and sometimes other sites on the internet more emblematic of this mis-embodiment (and its imbrication with capitalism -anglophone, for instance, brings up a Canadian online bookseller). This is a piece very much in line with Anzaldua’s work in delineating the manner in which specifically feminine border subjects are shaped and articulated through means completely external to their abilities to navigate as subjects.
