Entrepreneurs attempted to bring the moving picture into the home within months of the first public projections. This paper surveys some of these early efforts, examining at length the career of the Edison Home Projecting Kinetoscope, introduced in 1912. The failure of this ambitious venture resulted from a wide range of problems in merchandising and technology. "Gothick" in the first decades of the 18th century often simply meant "medieval," an inclusive term for both the round-arched Norman and the later pointed forms. But architectural historians using terms more precisely, have tended to focus on pointed arches. The round-arched, or Neo-Norman, expressions of medievalism in the baroque period have thus been largely ignored.
