Among 310 spindles examined 40 lacked a b1 fibre. These were all portions of tandem spindles in which the b2 fibre was continuous from one capsule, where it was accompanied by b1 and c fibres, to another where it was accomnpanied by c fibres only.

About 270 spindles units 12 had primary endings formed by 2 Ia axons. There were up to 5 secondary endings, but the mode was to have 1 secondary (out of 351, 253 had 1, 79 had 2, 15 had 3, 3 had 4 and 1 had 5.

Mean length of the primary endings=359 (range 242-608) mean legth of secondary= 348 (range 138-716)

The intramuscular diameter of Ia axons upplying b1b2c spindle units mean 7.4um range 3.4-12.8 n=213. Ia axons supplying b2c spindle units mean 5.1 range 2.2-9 um n=37 Mean of secondary axons = 3.9um if they are S1 and 2.9 for S2-5
