X Abstract

The optical properties of TiC x ; TiN x ; VC x ; and VN x in the energy range 1.5 to 40 eV were determined with the use of electron-energy-loss spectroscopy. The optical joint density of states deduced from a Kramers-Kronig analysis were compared with joint densities of states calculated from self-consistent Gaussian-LCAO band-structure data. Good agreement between theory and experiment was obtained. Characteristic differences among the spectra of the particular compounds are discussed in terms of different electronic properties deduced from band-structure calculations. The influence of nonmetal vacancies on the optical properties was investigated.

CiteULike organises scholarly (or academic) papers or literature and provides bibliographic (which means it makes bibliographies) for universities and higher education establishments. It helps undergraduates and postgraduates. People studying for PhDs or in postdoctoral (postdoc) positions. The service is similar in scope to EndNote or RefWorks or any other reference manager like BibTeX, but it is a social bookmarking service for scientists and humanities researchers.
