X Abstract

Hardbound. This book summarizes the current status of research on bilayerlipid membranes (planar lipid bilayers and spherical liposomes). In additionto describing the properties of lipid bilayers and examining biomembranephenomena, the book has two other objectives. The first is to presentpractical methods for the formation and study of lipid bilayers with eitheraqueous or metal-lipid bilayer interfaces. The second aim is to treat planarlipid bilayers as a new type of interfacial adsorption phenomena. The firstnine chapters cover properties of biomembranes, basic principles of membranebiophysics, transport, electrochemistry, physiology, bioenergetics, andphotobiology. Chapter 10 presents the following topics: lipid bilayers inmedicine, supported lipid bilayers as sensors, a short discussion ofliposomes, and solar energy transduction via semiconductor septum photovoltaiccells based on natural photosynthesis.

CiteULike organises scholarly (or academic) papers or literature and provides bibliographic (which means it makes bibliographies) for universities and higher education establishments. It helps undergraduates and postgraduates. People studying for PhDs or in postdoctoral (postdoc) positions. The service is similar in scope to EndNote or RefWorks or any other reference manager like BibTeX, but it is a social bookmarking service for scientists and humanities researchers.
