Abstractthis paper, we will argue that Peirce's ten classes of signs can be used to derive six separate and qualitatively distinct modes of abduction, and that these six modes can lead to the formulation of new models of inference and learning. As examples of the use of this system, we apply these ideas to the study of informal science learning and to navigating the World Wide Web.
