Clarifying the distinction between mathematical research and mathematics education, this book offers hundeds of suggestions for improving lectures, tutorials, task design, or problem solving. It addresses differences in student learning styles, as well as extra-academic issues in teaching, learning, and research, while presenting methods for the effective teaching of mathematics in a modern technological environment. Topics discussed include student difficulties with mathematics; issues of interest and stimulus in lecturing; advising tutorials; and constructing tasks.
