AbstractA forum on Latin American Art Criticism provides analyses by contemporary scholars of six key Latin American and Chicano/a critics--Jose Gomez Sicre, Mario Pedrosa, Marta Traba, Jorge Romero Brest, Tomas Ybarra-Frausto, and Amalia Mesa-Bains--in an effort to appreciate their seminal contributions to the understanding of modernism's evolution at the interconnected levels of the regional, national, and international. Radically eschewing a provincial perspective, all the critics under review demonstrate the impossibility of considering modernist or postmodernist aesthetics in isolation from the postwar economic and political shifts throughout the Americas and worldwide.
