AbstractWe investigate the estimation of regression equations for a sample selected from a finite population. In all derivations, the finite population is treated as a sample from an infinite population. The regression coefficients are shown to be asymptotically normal, given mild assumptions. Relatively simple expressions for the covariance matrix of the regression coefficients are presented. Procedures for estimating the structural parameters in the presence of response error are presented. Given knowledge of the response variance , the computations required to estimate the structural parameters and their standard errors are essentially equivalent to those required for the computation of the regression coefficient and its error in the absence of response error.
