X Abstract

Arvesen (1969) and Arvesen & Layard (1975) have established the asymptotic normality of the jackknife statistic and the consistencv of the jackknife variance estimator in the case of independent random variables where the unjackknifed statistic may be expressed as a function of several U-statistics. Similar results are obtained in the case of sampling without replacement from a finite population where the observations are no longer independent.
