AbstractThis paper introduces analytical results for code acquisition of a DS spread spectrum system in which either continuous pilot (CP) or burst pilot (BP) is used. Emphasis is in the performance and restrictions of Doppler shift, which is taken into account as signal-to-noise decreases. The performance measure is the mean acquisition time. Constant false alarm rate criteria are used as threshold setting rules for comparison. Numerical results indicate that the burst pilot method outperforms the continuous pilot method significantly when the average transmitter power is kept the same
