X Abstract

By considering the symmetry operators (table 1) of the various crystallographic magnetic point groups, the forms of property tensors in magnetic classes are related to those in the classical crystal classes. The resulting schemes of tensor components are presented in tabular form for tensors of ranks 1, 2, 3 and 4 possessing no intrinsic symmetry. The use of this table (table 2) is exemplified by a brief discussion of piezomagnetism, pyromagnetism (i.e. the occurrence of spontaneous magnetization) and the magneto-electric effect in antiferromagnetic chromic oxide.

CiteULike organises scholarly (or academic) papers or literature and provides bibliographic (which means it makes bibliographies) for universities and higher education establishments. It helps undergraduates and postgraduates. People studying for PhDs or in postdoctoral (postdoc) positions. The service is similar in scope to EndNote or RefWorks or any other reference manager like BibTeX, but it is a social bookmarking service for scientists and humanities researchers.
