Abstract

The idea of ‘school reform’ has been appropriated by people whose interest is in dismantling rather than improving public education, and these same individuals have found it useful to promote accountability in the form of high-stakes testing as a means to privatization. In particular, the so-called No Child Left Behind Act has been constructed to promote that agenda and ought to be resisted by anyone genuinely committed to excellence, equity, and the idea of education as a public good.
