X Abstract

Shows, through a Monte Carlo experiment, that statistical significance testing and effect size are related and complementary but do not substitute for each other, noting that good research requires consideration of both. Results of the experiment indicate that there is considerable variability in the sample effect size measure, and the extent of such variability is influenced by sample size. (SM)
