Abstract

Experiments with torsion pendulums have shown evidence for existence of a supersolid state in 4He at low temperatures. It is desirable to demonstrate supersolidity with an alternate experimental method. Theoretical treatments show that there should exist second‐ and fourth‐sound like propagating modes. The superconducting transition edge of titanium films is being explored as a detector for such an application and the exploration progress is reported. © 2006 American Institute of Physics
