Atiyah discusses mathematics in the 20th century. He discusses various themes, including the passage from local to global, the increase in dimension, the shift from commutative to non-commutative, the passage from the linear to non-linear, the dichotomy between geometry and algebra, and common methods that have been applied to a whole range of fields.
