Abstract

We study phonons in MgB2 using inelastic x-ray scattering (1.6 and 6 meV resolution). We clearly observe the softening and broadening of the crucial E2g mode through the Kohn anomaly along ΓM, in excellent agreement with ab initio calculations. Low temperature measurements (just above and below Tc) show negligible changes for the momentum transfers investigated and no change in the E2g mode at A between room temperature and 16 K. We report the presence of a longitudinal mode along ΓA near in energy to the E2g mode that is not predicted by theory.

CiteULike organises scholarly (or academic) papers or literature and provides bibliographic (which means it makes bibliographies) for universities and higher education establishments. It helps undergraduates and postgraduates. People studying for PhDs or in postdoctoral (postdoc) positions. The service is similar in scope to EndNote or RefWorks or any other reference manager like BibTeX, but it is a social bookmarking service for scientists and humanities researchers.
