X Abstract

A mathematical model of pendulum damping is presented. The model includes three damping terms, quadratic and linear in the velocity, and velocity independent. The model is applied to detailed experimental data obtained with a computer-linked rigid pendulum. Values of the damping parameters are obtained using nonlinear least squares. It is shown that linear models are inadequate to account for the observed behavior of real pendulums, and that at least two damping terms are generally needed.

CiteULike organises scholarly (or academic) papers or literature and provides bibliographic (which means it makes bibliographies) for universities and higher education establishments. It helps undergraduates and postgraduates. People studying for PhDs or in postdoctoral (postdoc) positions. The service is similar in scope to EndNote or RefWorks or any other reference manager like BibTeX, but it is a social bookmarking service for scientists and humanities researchers.
