AbstractAlthough my own previous work has been carried out within the neuroconstructivist framework, in this chapter my intention is to step back from this debate somewhat, and focus on exploring the notion of constrained development. This is because both frameworks must eventually incorporate an account of this sort, even if the strength of the constraints will differ in the two types of account. In the next section, I consider how both modular and neuroconstructivist frameworks still face significant challenges in characterizing the developmental process.
