X Abstract

This paper re-examines the rimal structure of /iu/ and /ui/ in Taiwanese Southern Min. Departing from previous studies, this paper argues that /iu/ is a falling diphthong [iu9] and /ui/ is a rising diphthong [u9i], based on rhyming patterns, syllable contraction, and acoustic measurement of energy amplitude.
