X Abstract

The AntNet, a mobile-agent-based routing algorithm for datagram networks, operates by a positive feedback mechanism. This mechanism has the drawback of routing lock. Although the AntNet has a mechanism to counter this drawback, there is still room for improvement. This paper proposes two methods: the decay method and the negative feedback method. We show that the AntNet with one of the two methods (called lock-free AntNet) can suppress the growth of the number of packets in a network after the occurrence of traffic fluctuation, a link failure, or a node failure. © 2000 Scripta Technica, Electron Comm Jpn Pt 1, 84(2): 51-61, 2001
