X Abstract

Efficient and error-free service provisioning is critical to a service provider's business success. Provisioning systems that automate and streamline provisioning processes play, therefore, an important role. This paper presents a generic approach to service provisioning which can be leveraged to build specific provisioning systems. The approach consists of means for the specification of the provisioning process and of a generic provisioning engine that can interpret those specifications and drive the execution of provisioning steps. Also discussed are practical application and experiences with this approach in the building of two real-world provisioning systems for residential subscriber services, respectively, Internet data centers.
