X Abstract

PMID: 19725575 A theory is presented for how magnetic nanostructures can catalyze intersystem crossing in molecular radical pairs. Magnetic field gradients near physically realistic nanostructures are strong enough to induce a relative reorientation of two electronic spins in <1 ns, overwhelming nuclear hyperfine coupling as a driver of intersystem crossing. Nanomagnetic control of intersystem crossing represents a form of heterogeneous catalysis that does not require molecular contact, but only short-range magnetic coupling.

CiteULike organises scholarly (or academic) papers or literature and provides bibliographic (which means it makes bibliographies) for universities and higher education establishments. It helps undergraduates and postgraduates. People studying for PhDs or in postdoctoral (postdoc) positions. The service is similar in scope to EndNote or RefWorks or any other reference manager like BibTeX, but it is a social bookmarking service for scientists and humanities researchers.
