Abstract

Rowers may sacrifice on-water technique during ergonometric training in an attempt to increase stroke output. This cross-sectional study aimed to identify characteristics of ergonometric rowing technique that could be potentially detrimental to an effective and safe on-water performance. The drag force on a racing shell increases with the square of velocity corresponding to a 3.2 power increase in energy expenditure. This paper investigates biomechanics of FES rowing and inclined bench sliding systems for the physical exercise of the spinal cord injured patient using computer simulation models. The simulation model consisted of the three-dimensional musculo-skeletal system including 56 muscle models and the neuronal control system.
