X Abstract

When researchers get to know situations through studies, they are likely to form opinions about the legitimacy of certain practices. Yet, in local studies, if they divulge their findings and express opinions openly, the comfortable distance between professional career and private life disappears. In this article I explore the nature of praxis and its impact on scholars' status in community and university. In spite of recognizing the stress of engaging in praxis, I still recommend that researchers endorse standards consistent with Enlightenment, modernist goals and engage in democratically transformative activism in conjunction with their scholarly careers.
