X Abstract

A major problem facing those engaged in the process of creating taxonomies for information on the World Wide Web is that, with increasing numbers of people tagging information using their own terms, it is always going to be impossible for such taxonomists to keep pace with the rapidly moving and changing environment. Concludes, however, that more good than ill can come from this process since the growing mass of terms may help creators of taxonomies to gain access to terms that more realistically indicate the real usage of such terms in practice.
