AbstractThe status of the educational system of Croatia is presented and several human development indicators for Croatia are compared with those of other countries in transition. The role of education in facing globalisation and in assuring sustainable development is analysed. The aims of various levels of education: primary, secondary and higher education, as well as preschool, postdoctoral, and permanent--lifelong and lifewide--education are also formulated.
