Angiogenin variants are not associated with Parkinson's disease in the ethnic Chinese population.
Recently, the angiogenin gene has been reported to be significantly associated with Parkinson's disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in populations of European and American ancestry. But there have been no studies investigating the association between angiogenin and Parkinson's disease in the ethnic Chinese population. We conducted a case-control study to evaluate the association between angiogenin and Parkinson's disease in a Chinese population from mainland China. We sequenced the exons of angiogenin in 532 Parkinson's disease patients and 480 controls. We did not detect an angiogenin coding region mutation in either the patients or the controls. Our data do not support the association of angiogenin variants with PD in Han Chinese of mainland China. Copyright © 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
